Prague’s Red Devils pounded Henryetta, 38-0, in their home opener Friday.

The Red Devils pounded Henryetta on the ground, racking up 401 yards, despite having several long plays called back.

Trevor McGinnis and Trip Davis carried the ball 15 times each, with McGinnis getting 116 yards, a touchdown and four two-point conversions. Davis had 107 yards and a score, with a number of long jaunts called back

“I’m excited about where we are,” said coach Mike Hedge. “We’re still learning every week and what we can do.

“We got a lot better between Week 1 and Week 2.”

Offensive stars abounded. In addition to McGinnis and Davis, Tyler Carpenter got 72 yards and a touchdown on only carries and Michael Swinford had 59 yards and a score on six rushes. Dex McKee had 19 yards rushing and a score.

Despite the offense, it was the defense that seemed to please Hedge the most.

“The kids played good defense,” he said. “I thought we were more sound than the week before. Last year, they threw the ball all over the field against us and we couldn’t cover anybody.

“I think there are still some questions on defense. A lot of times people overthink defense. You just want to be good at what you do and don’t let your feet get slow.

McKee had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery to pace the defensive effort.

McGinnis had 10 stops, including three solos, and Cooper Smith had eight.

This week the Red Devils head on Highway 99 to meet the Stroud Tigers, who are 0-2 following losses to Meeker and Chandler, both of whom are in Prague’s district.

“You can’t compare scores, but it will be kind of interesting to see what we do against common opponents,” Hedge said.

Kickoff is 7 p.m.
