Lincoln County commissioners this week heard a proposal from OSU Extension Office officials about a new building and utilizing ARPA funds to pay for it.
Commissioners also approved a notification system proposal with Wave Plus System.
On the new building for the OSU Extension Office, commissioners were told the office needs to be out of the courthouse and in another place.
One who spoke to the commissioners said, “Meetings with some of our clientele have to be confidential.”
The proposal calls for putting the new building south of the existing livestock barn at the fairgrounds.
“It would be a 9,600 square feet building with a 4,400 square feet conference area.
“It will include five offi ces, it would be all under one roof,” the OSU official said.
“It’s the county’s building, it would be state of the art and have a full demonstration kitchen. It would allow us to offer income producing events,” commissioners were advised.
Estimated cost of the building, commissioners were informed, is $1.6 million but OSU officials are asking for $1.8 million in county ARPA funds to include other costs.
Commissioners, who could take no action during this week’s meeting, were further advised the building would take around four to six months to construct once ground is broken.
District 3 and Commission Chairman Lee Doolen indicated he favors a new building, rather than leasing a building.
On the notification system for the courthouse, commissioners were informed thesystemwouldbe integrated with the Sheriff’s Office and includes a twoyear warranty.
They were told, “There are no false alarms with our system. It’s wireless,” they were advised.
Commissioners were also told the system is expandable.
Doolen made a motion to approve the proposal with it to be paid for from the Courthouse Equipment Fund and District 1 Commissioner Carl Munson seconded it.
Commissioners decided to put off until the next meeting purchase of new scales for the Size and Weights program in the Sheriff’s Office.
They also decided to not take any action on reviewing employee incident and accident reports to approve or deny employees’eligibility for a safety bonus.
