This year’s Pottawatomie County Junior Livestock Trophy Auction and Pig Roast held last week set another new record. Suzanne Gilbert, who is chairperson of the Pottawatomie County Junior Livestock Show, advised me that the total amount raised during last week’s event was $50,045.

I serve on the Oklahoma Route 66 Centennial Commission and thus receive regular articles regarding tourism in Oklahoma. The latest email I received from Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell’s office was titled “Where to travel 2022: The best destinations to visit.” The article came from CNN travel.

With the weather prognosticators predicting a fairly powerful storm this week for Oklahoma and much of the nation, I figured it might be wise to prepare a little. Around 8 on Monday morning one of the apps on my cell phone alerted me about a winter storm watch for our area beginning around 9 a.m.

McLoud City Council meeting

McLoud City Council members have voted to approve a specific use permit for a Medical Marijuana Dispensary in their city. The 4-1 vote came following lengthy discussion on more than one motion made concerning the application.

My mom sent me a picture this week of the new crosswalk designations being painted on Main Street. Thank you, City Council, City Manager Bob Pearman and the City of Stroud employees. This has been needed for a long time and people and groups have inquired about them.

Chamber banquet

The Chandler Area Chamber of Commerce will have its annual banquet Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Route 66 Interpretive Center. Tickets are $25. The speaker for the banquet will be Stephen E. Smith, with the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center.
