State champs!

When the final buzzer sounded last Saturday night in their state championship game against Cashion, the Dale High School boys basketball team made history. Coach Jeff Edmonson’s Pirates captured the first Gold Ball in the history of Dale boys basketball.

Davenport golfer takes second

Fisher Reed of Davenport took second at the Olive Golf Tournament last week He shot a 76 and was tied with Wes Burns of Metro Christian. Burns won on the first hole of a playoff to earn the title. Reed, a junior, also took second at the Wewoka tournament with an 80, one stroke out of the lead.

Chandler’s Heath Gray won his second national championship and led his University of Oklahoma wrestling team to a runnerup finish in the NCAA Division II national tournament in St. Louis last week. Wrestling at 187 pounds, Gray beat West Liberty’s Connor Craig, 4-3, in the finals.

Chandler sophomore Kalee Peery set a new state record last week at the state powerlifting meet, squatting 275 pounds. She competed in the 121-pound class. There was several top five finishers from Lincoln County.

Lifters head to state

Chandler’s boys powerlifting team won the small school championship at the Northeast Regional championship and advanced 18 lifters to the state meet, which is Saturday in El reno. There were 31 boys teams represented at the meet. Chandler set a new school record by qualifying 18 lifters for state.

Dale: to the Big House

Following convincing wins in area action last weekend, both of Dale High School’s basketball teams are headed back this week to the state tournament which opens today (Thursday). The tournament is being played at the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The Dale girls open the tournament at 9 a.m.
