New Stroud tradition

Brian Niccum, owner of JB Landscaping, was born and raised in Stroud and wanted to give back to his community in the form of a new tradition. In the lot behind Sooner Motel on Main Street, JB Landscaping is hosting the first Tree Lighting Saturday, Dec. 12 starting at 5 p.m.

UCO to hold virtual commencement

The University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond will celebrate the achievements of approximately 1,074 graduates during the Fall 2020 Virtual Commencement Ceremony premiering at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.

Food giveaway in Wellston

On Friday, Dec. 11, free food will be distributed at the Wellston Baseball Field area at 900 Hickory. This is not a needs-based program, so the food can go to anyone without restriction. Food distribution will begin at 11:45 a.m. and continue until supplies are gone.

Community Christmas Dinner

The public is invited to a free Community Christmas Dinner and Gift Away Event at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, presented by Open Doors Ministry. The event will be at Douglas Community Center, 299 W. 14th Street in Chandler.

The initial shipment of vaccine to combat the COVID-19 Pandemic is expected to arrive in Oklahoma between now and Dec. 14 and area health care workers are among those who will receive vaccinations in Phase 1.

Maddie Gregory, center, and the Chandler High School band were among the parade participants at the annual parade in Chandler Saturday. The parade is sponsored by the Chandler Chamber of Commerce and was one of three Christmas parades in the country.

As the temperatures drop and days get shorter, the holiday season is in full swing. Although 2020 has been a historic year with many changes, holiday traditions bring a sense of normalcy and holiday cheer.

Charging past Summit

Carson Funk accounted for all six Davenport touchdowns in the 40-20 rout of then-undefeated Summit Christian Academy last Friday. On Davenport’s first possession, Jeff Greenfield and staff dialed up a Funk run that went for 46 yards, basically untouched.
