All Meeker High School students attended the three days of classes this week virtually due to COVID-19 concerns, School Supt. Jeff Pruitt said.

There were only three days of class this week because of the annual fall break.

Pruitt noted that students in Pre-K through 8th grade attended as usual, either traditionally or virtual.

He said that nine high school students had tested positive for the Coronavirus since school had begun and there were five active cases now.

There has been one case at the Middle School, he said, only one case at the elementary and that was a teacher.

Pruitt explained, “Our plan is for high school students to return to traditional classes on Monday of next week.”

He said those attending virtually this year will continue to do that.

“The football game against Star Spencer tonight (Thursday) is still scheduled,” he said.

High School Principal Brad Buxton said during his principal’s report at Monday night’s board meeting, “Our band students are going to Oologah Tuesday morning in two buses, each with 10 students. Some of our events we’ve also pushed back,” he added.

Pruitt said during the board meeting that he believed having the high school students attend virtually was the best thing to do since some students had indicated late last week they might be having some symptoms.

Pruitt told the board he stays in touch with the Lincoln County Health Department and between Oct. 6-12 there had been 107 new cases of COVID in the county.

Buxton also advised the board some students took the ACT test a couple of weeks ago and others will take it on Oct. 20.

The board approved the annual Election Resolution. Pruitt said the school board seats in the 2021 election are Office No. 1, a five-year term and the unexpired four-year term of Office No. 5.

Lindel Standlee currently holds the Office No. 1 seat and Office No. 5 is being held by Marc Chapman who didn’t run for re-election earlier this year but since no one filed for the office he has continued to hold it.

The board also approved of administering the ACT to eligible juniors in the Spring of 2021.
