The Town Board this week approved two new ordinances for the second time in about a month.
The new ordinances deal with governing garage sales in the Town of Meeker and the Public Competitive Bidding Act.
Town Administrator Dickie Walton and Town Clerk Mary Conner explained it was necessary for the board to approve those ordinances again because the legal notification in the newspaper didn’t get published in time for them to take effect as planned.
The Town didn’t receive the legal notifications in time for them to be submitted and published in the newspaper.
The new garage sale ordinance restricts the number of garage/estate/rummage sales an individual can have in a calendar year to three including any designated garage sale weekends sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in the Town of Meeker.
Garage, estate or rummage sales may be conducted only on Fridaythrough Sunday.
A $10 permit is required, obtained through the Town Clerk, except the $10 is waived for any city-wide sale held by the Chamber of Commerce.
An individual violating the ordinance and found guilty of it could be charged with a misdemeanor and fined up to $159.
The board also amended an ordinance to bring the city of Meeker into compliance with the Public Competitive Bidding Act. The amendment states that competitive bidding is not required for supplies, materials, equipment or contractural services as long as it doesn’t exceed $50,000.
The amount before was $12,500.
The emergency clauses on both ordinances also were approved again by the board.
