Teachers and students in the McLoud School District won’t see the inside of a classroom until Monday, Nov. 30, as it stands now.

School Supt. Steve Stanley said the doors were locked up at the end of classes on Thursday, Nov. 12.

“We’ve just been inundated by COVID-19. I have 34 staff members out due to either testing positive or having to quarantine and 100 kids are out as well,” he said.

I don’t have enough teachers to cover,” Stanley explained.

“We checked out computers and sent packets home with the little kids,” Stanley noted.

He said teachers and students turned to virtual learning starting last Monday, Nov. 16. In addition to the four days this week, school was scheduled already to be out all next week due to Thanksgiving.

Stanley said crews would clean the buildings last Friday and then they would remain locked until the morning of Nov. 30.

He stressed, “All activities and practices have been canceled except for football which is in the state playoffs and the Regional Academic Meet which we can’t make up.”

The superintendent also emphasized that, “teachers would be teaching from home and not from school as they usually do when we go virtual.”

“Safety of staff and students comes first. That’s my number 1 priority. We can’t do anything else if they aren’t safe,” Stanley added.
