Prairie Pointe residents were very thankful to welcome Bro. James Bond, Mason McCormick and Carson Wright from the First Baptist Church to lead worship services Sunday. Bro. James’ timely sermon reminded us of the “Supremacy of God”, reading from Act 17. We are continuing to be cautious and limit the number of people coming, but thoroughly enjoyed the step toward normalcy.
It’s been a slow news week at Prairie Pointe except for two incidents involving our ambulance service. The incidents did not involve anyone who lives at Prairie Pointe but rather the brother of one of our staff and a staff member. What a comfort it is to know Stroud has an ALS (Advanced Life Support) ambulance service. That is huge –especially if you are having a stroke and the symptoms are very similar to low blood sugar. That happened this past week and thank God for Darrell Kee!
There are two main differences between an EMT and a paramedic: the amount of training they have received and the types of procedures they are able to perform. An EMT generally finishes 150 hours of training and coursework, while a paramedic completes between 1,200 and 1,800 hours of training and coursework.
EMTs work on the front lines of emergency medical services, providing support to patients, before they reach a hospital. They are trained in administering basic medical care and CPR. Paramedics are advanced emergency medical care providers. They provide the highest level of prehospital care and advanced life support to patients.
Speaking of a hospital….The term “talk the talk, walk the walk” is a phrase that means a person should support what they say in words and deeds. First Physicians and the Stroud Regional Medical Center has exemplified that with their community centered approach in Stroud. Their vision for success does not stop at the hospital doors. They have been investing in healthy choices education for several years now.
Their C2H2 (Community Centered Health Hub) initiative which is the brainchild of Jon Lowery, Director of Community Development, has brought FREE diabetes and exercise classes to Stroud. The hospital has hosted Dinner and Learn evening events on topics such as “Using Medications Safely”, “Being a Caregiver” and “How to Communicate with Doctors.”
First Physicians has also provided GED classes and hosted a county-wide screening of the film “Resilience” about the devastating consequences of childhood trauma and toxic stress. They have also sponsored Health Fairs and made generous donations to the City of Stroud for projects which included a building expansion for the local Food Pantry, restoration of an iconic landmark Coca-Cola sign and an electronic sign which flashes healthy reminders and also announces community and school events. They have a vision for our community and they are investing for the long haul.
The Stroud Hospital employs over 150 full and part-time people making it one of the larger employers in Lincoln County. They also operate the hospitals in Fairfax and Anadarko.
