A McLoud man died Monday evening in a two-vehicle collision on an ice-covered highway in Lincoln County.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Smith identified the man who died as Lary England, 72. Smith said the collision occurred around 6:17 p.m. on ice-covered SH 102 north of County Road 1070 approximately two miles north of McLoud.
Smith said England died at the scene from a head injury.
The trooper reported the weather was freezing rain at the time of the wreck.
He identified the other driver involved in the collision as Ronald L. Peterson, 64, of Harrah.
He said Peterson was transported by REACT EMS to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Shawnee where he was admitted in good condition with trunk internal and leg injuries.
The trooper reported that England was driving a 2017 Nissan Versa northbound on SH 102. He said Peterson was driving a 2020 Hyundai Tucson southbound on the highway. England’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck Peterson’s vehicle head-on, the trooper reported.
Smith said condition of England at the time of the collision was unknown and that Peterson’s condition was apparently normal when the collision occurred.
He listed cause of the collision as left of center.
Seat belts were equipped in both vehicles, and in use in the Hyundai Tucson and not in use in the Nissan, the trooper said.
Smith, of the Lincoln County Detachment of Troop A, was assisted by Trooper Barrett Karlin of Troop A.
