Donald Lee Ostrander, 56, of Wellston was charged with first degree rape of a child under 14.
According to the affidavit filed by Lincoln County Sheriff Deputy Detective Larry Stover Sr., the victim told her mother Ostrander raped her. She also stated she had non-consensual sex with him more times than she could remember and was worried if she didn’t appease him, he would seek satisfaction from other minors, according to the affidavit.
She said Ostrander threatened to kill himself if she told her mother, however, the time came when she felt safe enough to reach out for help.
According to the affidavit, the victim said Ostrander would take her to the camper outside the residence, which was considered his “man cave,” to perform these acts on her.
After receiving a warrant to look for specific evidence, Detective Stover Sr. went to the residence and spoke with Ostrander. He denied the allegations against him, but stated he had a drinking problem, according to the affidavit.
On July 15, Stover was notified that Ostrander’s residence was on fire and that he attempted to cut his throat, according to the affidavit.
When Stover arrived on the scene, the fire department advised him there were two points of origin where the fire started and there was a gas can in the living room, according to the affidavit.
Stover talked to Ostrander who said he didn’t know how the fire started, but did say he had been drinking, according to the affidavit.
Stover talked to a neighbor who said Ostrander told her “he set the house on fire in the living room because he was going to jail and if he could not have the house then no one else will”, according to the affidavit.
Ostrander was arrested and booked into the Lincoln County Jail.
Ostrander filed his $100,000 bond and will be back in court Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m. for his initial appearance.
