Van Tuyl receives Citizen of the Year Award

Since the Chamber banquet was canceled due to COVID, Chamber officials made a surprise presentation Monday, Nov. 30.

The Chamber Parade is Saturday at 6 p.m. in downtown Stroud.

Leading the parade will be the Stroud Chamber’s 2019 Citizen of the Year, Van Tuyl, and Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, who will be named today, Thursday, Dec. 3.

Van Tuyl has been a member of the Stroud community for 36 years. VanTuyl served on the City Council, and has been Superintendent of Schools since 2012.

Van Tuyl came to Stroud in 1984 when he was hired as the boys basketball coach and history teacher.

He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in education and a masters’ degree in administration from the University of Central Oklahoma.

He and his wife, Mary Kay have four children, Katie, Laura, Jennifer and Joseph. They also have four grandchildren, Molly, Maggie, Julia and Luke.
