Meeker hears drop-out report

The Meeker Board of Education was presented the dropout report for the Middle School and High School during its meeting earlier this week.

Middle School Dean of Students Virgil Fowler reported no dropouts during the 2018-2019 school year.

High School Principal Brad Buxton told the board there were no dropouts at the high school level either.

During his College Remediation report for the high school, Buxton said in comparison to other Lincoln County schools that in English Meeker was in the middle. He noted that “Math was our weak point,” and advised the board that would be a focus during the upcoming second semester.

Buxton reported high school enrollment stands at about 231 total students.

Fowler said Middle School enrollment is around 126.

Elementary Principal Candace Gatz advised enrollment in Pre-K through fifth grade is 308. She reported the school’s Christmas store made approximately $850 profit.

The board voted to approve an agreement between the district and Gordon

Cooper Technology Center.

The agreement with GCTC allows Meeker High School students attending GCTC to receive academic course credit for classes approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Education and allows sophomore-level students to enroll in appropriate CTE courses.

Board members accepted the resignation of Kellos Walker, Middle School custodian.

They also went into executive session to discuss the evaluation of School Supt. Jeff Pruitt.
