Ruth Evelyn Baker McCoy

Ruth Evelyn Baker McCoy was born April 22, 1927, in Parkland, Okla., and left this world June 8, 2021 in Stroud, Okla., at the Stroud Health Care Center. Her parents were Julius Postman Baker and Ruby Chloe Hale Baker. Ruth was a waitress at the Chandler Bus Station in the late 1940s which was located where Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts is currently located at 603 Manvel Ave. In 1951 Ruth married James Murdock McCoy Jr. and the newlyweds moved to Shawnee where their only child Raymond was born. Jim was employed by Oklahoma Natural Gas Co. After a transfer to Anadarko, Okla., the family moved back to Chandler in 1965. Ruth went to work for the Chandler Public Schools as a cook in the lunchroom at Eastside Elementary and remained there until 1972. Sonic Drive-In came to town, and she went to work there until her retirement.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Jude (Julius) and Ruby, her sister Nelda McIntire of Parkland and her brothers Charlie Toles of Agra, Richard Baker of Parkland and Buddy Baker of Kellyville. She is survived by her only child Raymond McCoy and his wife Ouida of Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren, Staci and Dru Robertson of Chandler, James and Amber McCoy of Chandler and Chris and Rachel McCoy of Stroud; five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ruth is a long-time member of the Chandler Church of the First Born. In lieu of flowers the family requests you send your monetary donation to Chandler Church of the First Born, c/o Bro. Tom Wright, 339741 East 13th Street, Chandler OK 74834.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2021, at Chandler Church of the First Born.
