1. Update on asphalt overlay on Highway 18
A. Oklahoma Department of Transportation has started the asphalt overlay on Highway 18. They have started on the east side and doing one lane at a time. Traffic is being directed with a pilot car so be patient and careful. The steel roller is really making the asphalt smooth, watch for the flag men. They are laying approximately 1 ½ miles per day.
2. Update on Chamber of Commerce
A. Josh Sims is still working on a date for the fireworks display. Options are August 21st or 28th, “Back to School Bash”.
B. Summer Swim Program is back on for 3 weeks, Prague got their pumps working so check with Laverne Babinchak for the classes at 405-279-3535.
3. Update on the Library
A. Meeker Public Library held their 20th Anniversary Celebration July 17th and had a blast. Mayor Jeff Wilbourn and Dan Morgan attended the event.
B. Make plans to attend Bunko starting September 25th. Call the Library for details at 405-279-1139.
4. Update on Grants A. We received information about another CDBG grant from the OWRB that we will be applying for. It will be another $150K, sure will help.
5. Update on “Quapaw 15 Project”
A. I received an e-mail from Valerie Glasglow NRCS, Stillwater and she said they are still trying to resolve the soil issue. She said she hoped to have it resolved in the next month or two. Sounds like the same old story, different month. She finished the e-mail with, “at least knowing a path forward”.
6. Update on Growth and Development
A. After much discussion about whether to sell alcoholic beverages on Main Street at the Pumpkin Festival, it was voted 4 to 1 not to sell it. Vonda Langulle voted yes. Sandy Hemingway, Teresa Head, Melissa Way, and Mayor Jeff Wilbourn all voted no. Mayor Wilbourn started the no motion to be voted on.
B. A work party has been scheduled for Saturday the 24th at 8:00 am at the Community Garden. Sandy Hemingway mentioned to please bring thick gloves because some of the tall weeds are rough.
C. Contact your Growth and Development member to purchase your 4’x4’ garden area for $90. Bring your ideas and join in on the local fellowship with the ladies and the garden.
