Burglary arrest: some items recovered

Area law enforcement officers and a Bristow police officer have arrested a man who is now charged with three counts of second degree burglary.

And a woman also faces a second degree burglary count as well.

Joshua Lee Davis, 31, of Drumright, is accused of breaking into rental units at storage facilities in Davenport and on U.S. 62, both in Lincoln County. Several of the reported stolen items have been recovered, officers said.

Formal charges were filed Aug. 18 in Lincoln County District Court after his arrest earlier this month.

Special Judge Emily Mueller set $75,000 bonds for Davis on two of the counts and a $3,000 bond on the third charge.

Kelsey Brianne Smith, 32, was formally charged Aug. 20 Lincoln County District Court with second degree burglary.

Judge Mueller set a $5,000 bond for her and ordered Smith to make her initial appearance at 1:30 p.m. on Sep. 9.

The first count accuses Davis of breaking and entering into a unit rented to Christine Bridge, located at H&T Storage in the Town of Davenport in Lincoln County on Aug. 8, with the intent to steal property kept in the storage unit.

The second case against him is for allegedly breaking and entering into a unit rented to Gary McElroy located at H&T Storage in the Town of Davenport in Lincoln County on July 24 with the intention of stealing property located in the storage unit.

Smith is accused of acting conjointly with Davis by breaking and entering into the unit rented by McElroy.

And the third case charges Davis with breaking and entering into a storage unit rented to Charles Orso located at 351179 U.S. 62 in Lincoln County on July 21 with the intent to steal property at that storage unit.

Each of the crimes in punishable by not more than seven years imprisonment.

In a probable cause affidavit, Lincoln County Sheriff Detective Larry Stover, Sr., states he obtained information that Davis and a woman were staying at the Carolyn Inn in Bristow in Creek County.

Stover said he also checked with his dispatch and was informed Pottawatomie County had an active felony arrest warrant for Davis.

Stover reported he was assisted by Bristow Police Officer Trent Bray as they went to the Inn in Bristow and knocked on a door where a woman opened it. She identified herself as Kelsey Smith.

She told them Davis had just left with a friend that morning. She was placed under arrest for second degree burglary, Stover reported.

They cleared the room and located Davis under the bed hiding.

They placed him under arrest.

Stover said Davis was transported to the Lincoln County Jail in Chandler on burglary charges and Smith also was transported to the jail for second degree burglary.

Other deputies and officers investigating the cases have recovered some of the items reportedly stolen, among them two stolen weed eaters, a slot machine, a 32-inch television, a heater and a bag of tools.
