17-10 win over Stroud for championship
Chandler came back from a 7-2 hole against Stroud in the finals and won the 66 Conference tournament championship Saturday night in McLoud.
It was the third game of the day between the two teams.
Stroud won, 4-2, in the winners’ bracket finals Saturday morning.
Chandler then beat Holdenville, 10-0, to set up the championship match with Stroud.
With the double elimination format, the Lady Lions needed to win twice to be champions, and that’s what they did.
Grace Hulsey went 4-for-4 with two triples and four RBI to lead them to a 9-4 win in the first championship game, then went 3-for-3 with three RBI to pace the 17-10 win in the finals.
“Offensively, she definitely ignited us,” Chandler coach Bryan Herring said of Hulsey, a junior. “She’s our spark plug.”
In addition to the seven hits and seven RBI in the finals, Hulsey was 13-of-16 at the plate during Chandler’s six tournament games.
Keelie Treat picked up both finals wins in the circle for the Lady Lions.
KayLyn Baker was 3-for-5 in the championship for Stroud and Allison Lee was 4-for-4.
Kenlee Parrick homered for the Lady Tigers, who were the defending champions.
The tournament championship left the Lady Lions with a 16-2 record.
The came back Monday with a 9-1 loss to Ripley, ranked No. 3 in Class A, and took on Crooked Oak in a doubleheader Tuesday.
Stroud was 11-6 after the tournament, then fell 2-0 to Bristow on Monday before playing Mounds on Tuesday.
Prague was 1-2 in the tournament, beating Okemah.
McLoud also went 1-2, with a win over Meeker, which was 0-2.
