Late touchdown seals the deal for Bristow

Bristow’s Darien Dansby turned a loose ball into a 36-yard fourth-quarter touchdown return to give Bristow a 10-point victory over Chandler Friday night.

Dansby’s game-breaker came about after a fourthdown play by the Lions at their own 36-yard line with 2:36 left in the game.

Bristow was ahead, 29-26, and the Lions needed to reach their 39 to get a first down and keep their hopes alive.

Quarterback Kaden Jones ran on the fourth-down play and got near the 39 before he was tackled, but the ball came out and Dansby took it to the house.

Following the play, the game was delayed several minutes while the Chandler argued that the ball was down before the fumble was down, the officials flagging several unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and conferring among themselves.

The Lions had a final possession that ended with an interception. Bristow took over and ran out the clock.

Chandler dominated early in the game and held a 20-14 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Jarin Greenfield got the Lions on the board early with a 10-yard touchdown reception just four minutes into the game.

Jones pushed it to 14-0 with 1:12 left in the first. Statistically, his run was for 22 yards but he reversed his field near the sideline and covered about 60.

Bristow got one score back when Cord Dobrinski ran 72 yards with 5:19 left in the first half, and another when Cache Henson went seven yards midway through the third quarter.

That tied it, at 14-14, but Jones put Chandler back ahead with another touchdown run with 2:37 remaining in the third.

The kick was blocked, making it 20-14, and Bristow took its first lead on the following possession.

Charles Ware set up the score with a 50-yard catchand-run to the 7-yard line on the last play of the third quarter.

Dobrinksi ran for the score on the next play, the kick was good, and Bristow was up, 21-20.

The lead didn’t last long, though, as Jones ran 46 for a touchdown less than two minutes later.

Chandler tried for a two-point conversion, but failed, and led 26-21.

Bristow pulled back ahead with 4:01 left in the game when Dobrinski scored yet again, this time on an 8-yard run.

That and the point-after kick made it 29-26 and set up the dramatic fourth-down play.
