The pilot of a two-seater Ultra light helicopter died Monday afternoon when his chopper crashed in a field north of Stroud.
Lincoln County Sheriff Charlie Dougherty identified the deceased pilot as Carrie Wilson, 66.
The sheriff said he didn’t know where Wilson was from, but that the fatal crash occurred on property owned by the pilot’s brother.
“When our deputy got on scene, the fire department was already performing CPR on Wilson,” Dougherty stated.
“Medi-flight had been called.
“Once they got on scene, they determined it was a fatality,” the sheriff added.
He explained that Medi-flight personnel were able to pronounce that because they have that authority.
Shortly after Medi flight got on the scene, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol arrived and took over the scene and began its investigation, Dougherty said.
The sheriff reported the crash occurred about four miles south of Cushing in Lincoln County in a field near 780 Road and SH 99.
Dougherty said it was a licensed aircraft.
Another source reported it appeared the helicopter crashed during takeoff.
The OHP had not released any further information on the crash by Tuesday afternoon.
