Melfouse Thomas Corter was born January 31, 1935, in Cushing, Okla. He died Thursday, October 21, 2021, in Newalla, Okla., at the age of 86 years.
Corter, the son of Johnny Thomas and Rosa Ellen Carmichael Corter, was married to Nola Mae Clayton on September 1, 1956, in Oklahoma City. Following her death, he married Virginia Herrmann on May 3, 2003.
He worked as a custodian at Sacramento City College in Sacramento, Calif., and retired from California State College. He was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn.
Preceding him in death were his parents; both his wives; his daughter Rosemary Kay; two sons, Thomas Corter and Timothy Corter; three brothers, Everette Corter, Marlin Corter and Harvey Corter and his wife Geraldine; and two sisters, Shirley and Zella with husband Edward Overacker.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Tina Corter of Midwest City, Okla.; a sister, Velma Huckabay of Brewster, Wash; eight grandchildren and their spouses; nine great-grandchildren; five stepchildren and their spouses, Rodney and Christina Herrmann, Gary and Nancy Roberts, Christy and Shannon Kessler, Deborah and Mike Reeves and Randall and Matilda Herrmann; and other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Church of the Firstborn in Parkland, Okla., with burial following at Parkland Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing.
