Area schools are planning various programs to recognize and honor veterans during Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11. A couple of schools are still not allowing outside visitors into their buildings due to COVID-19, but are doing in house observances on that day.
Agra School Supt. Jeff Kelly said, “I will interview a World War II veteran in front of the students during our program. He’s 96-year-old Glen Sigle, a longtime Agra resident,” he noted. “He and his family are excited,” Kelly said.
“We will also have some World War I and World War II uniforms on display.”
High School Principal Rennie Nickell said the program is scheduled for 9 a.m. Veterans Day in the Wes McFarland Center. In addition to the interview, Nickell said the Cushing American Legion will do a POW table and flag folding.
“They will detail what each fold means,” he explained. “Agra’s High School Choir also will sing,” he said.
Carney— School Supt. Brian Keith, who is also high school principal, said the school will have a Veteran’s Day program beginning at 10 a.m. in the multi-purpose building. “The Elementary School will present a program and the FFA will also read a speech or two,” he stated.
“A couple of high school kids will also sing. All veterans and their families are invited,” he said.
Chandler— School Supt. Melody Toma said, “There will not be a public program this year. We are still not allowing outside visitors,” she added.
Toma said there will be inside the classroom discussion and education about Veterans Day on that day and what it means.
Dale—Assistant High School Principal JD Widner said the Middle School Leadership Class will put on a program beginning at 9 a.m. The High School Band band will perform.
All veterans are invited to attend and enjoy refreshments beginning at 8:30 a.m., he said.
He noted there will be a speaker and that all veterans will be honored and recognized during the program.
Meeker— Vocational Agricultural instructor and FFA advisor Logan Johns said the FFA will present the program beginning at 11 a.m. in the gymnasium. FFA students will begin with a short presentation with the introduction by the FFA president.
High School Principal Brad Buxton will do the introduction followed by the invocation. A moment of silence will follow, Johns said, and then the high school band will play the National Anthem followed by the military branch songs.
All veterans in the area are invited to attend.
The FFA president will recite a short story and officers will do a reflection with the Pledge of Allegiance to follow.
North Rock Creek— School Supt. Blake Moody said a Veterans Day program is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. “It’s being organized by our Gifted and Talented students,” he explained.
“We have a veteran who will be the speaker, Keegan Danker. He is a family member of one of our students” he noted.
“Our new high school band will be playing songs throughout the ceremony, among them the Star Spangled Banner. Our High School Media Production Class is putting together a video of local veterans that we know of from the area.”

White Rock— Supt. Alicia Ebers said their program will begin at 1 p.m on Veterans Day and that it’s scheduled outside, weather permitting.
“We will it hold in the gymnasium if the weather doesn’t permit,” she said.
The speaker is Ret. Col. Amos “Mike” Chase, she said. “The Tinker Air Force Base USAF Honor Guard will post the colors and retire the colors,” she added.
“There will be a special Canon Salute handled by Col. Chase and performances by some of our kids,” she said.
Prague—Business teacher Vallery Feltman said their program starts at 10 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. “Any veteran and community member is welcome to attend,” she said.
“There will be the presentation of Colors, the placing of the wreath and patriotic readings.
“The high school band will perform, elementary students will sing and recognition of Veterans by the American Legion,” Feltman related.
Also, there will be a recognition of Boys and Girls State delegates.
Stroud— High School Principal Scott Baade announced their program will be at 11 a.m. Veterans Day in the Performing Arts Center. He said speakers are to be determined.
“There will be no luncheon,” he stressed. “If our technology allows us, we will live stream the program,” he said.
“Our Vocal Program will perform, the band will play and some of the officers of various school organizations will do the Assembly,” he said.
Davenport— High School Principal Misty Emmons explained, “All of our programs will be inside the classroom. There are no outside visitors allowed still in the buildings,” she emphasized, adding, “Hopefully, by next year that will change.
“We’ll use that day to educate our students in the classroom rather than everyone packed into one large room.”
Wellston— Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor Marty Coulson said their school’s Veteran Day Assembly begins at 10 a.m. in the high school gymnasium.
“We will have a guest speaker, a patriotic slide presentation and the Family Consumer Science Class will introduce and recognize all veterans in attendance.
“Business Professionals of America will provide refreshments to those veterans and FFA officers will recite patriotic poems. The high school band will play the National Anthem and Taps,” Coulson said.
McLoud— McLoud schools will host a program honoring veterans on Veterans Day from 10 to 10:55 a.m. in the high school gymnasium.
The speaker will be Justin Tate, SMSGT, Air Force.
