The Dale Board of Education has approved of accepting a retirement letter from Acting Supt. Ky Wilkins and longtime financial secretary Paula Ramsey announced she also is retiring.
Wilkins’ retirement becomes effective June 30 this year and Ramsey said she is retiring on the same date.
Ramsey said she’s been in her position for 31 years, having started in May of 1991.
Wilkins said he’s been in education for 32 years, and has spent 25 years of that at Dale. He noted he was first hired as the girl’s high basketball coach and also later coached the boys.
He held the position of Secondary principal for many years. In July of 2020, following the retirement of then Supt. Charlie Dickinson, he took over as the Acting Superintendent and also remained as Secondary principal.
The board appointed JD Widner as the Assistant Secondary Principal around the same time as Wilkins took over as Acting Superintendent.
Wilkins told board members during their recent meeting, “I’m ready for new adventures. I’ve enjoyed my time here, I’m a lucky, lucky guy.”
He also said earlier, “I’m ready to move on.”
Wilkins also reviewed with the board revenue comparisons between December of 2021 and the same month in 2020.
Through December of 2021, warrants totaled $2,273,044 and through December of 2021 the figure is $2,374,151 which is $137,107 more.
Actual revenue, which is local money the state cannot touch, totaled $919,901 through last month in 2021. That is $176,447 more than the district had received through December of 2020 which was $743,454.
The building fund in December of a year ago stood at $104,215. Last month it totaled $86,207 which is about $18,008 down.
The district’s cash balance in December of 2020 was $561,343. In December of 2021, it totaled $679,497. That is an increase of $118,154 over a year ago.
State aid received through December of 2021 was $1,343,056 and that is $17,335 less than the $1,360,391 through December of 2020.
The County Education sales tax balance currently stands at $344,412 Wilkins said.
And the American Rescue Program funds are $541,919, Wilkins said. “We haven’t spent any of that money, but we are fixing to spend some of it,” he told board members.
