Town Talk

Thank you to everyone who participated in and attended the Memorial Day ceremony at Stroud Cemetery.

The program is sponsored by the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Town Talk volunteers. Those participating were James Bond, Delmer Summers, Genevieve Holland, Danielle Stangle, Randy Ethridge, Mike Williams, Eric Bradley, Jared Null, Robert Harris, Ashley Clark, David Abbey, Joey Pullara and Matt Cockrum.

A big thank you also goes to those who helped place flags on each veteran’s grave, prior to Memorial Day. Megan Case brought her high school and middle school cheerleaders out to help and boy, they were a big help!

We will be picking those flags up later this week. It was great to see all the alums who came home for the weekend.

Everyone I spoke with had a wonderful time catching up on all the latest with their former high school classmates.

It has been a long-time Stroud tradition to combine Alumni Weekend with Memorial Day.

It allows everyone some time to reconnect with old friends and honor their loved ones at Stroud Cemetery. I finally got to meet Janet Place Huwar’s husband, Tom. Tom and Janet are regular donors to most all Town Talk projects. Janet, a graduate of 1972, celebrated her 50- year reunion and Tom came along to participate in the celebration.

He was just as nice as I expected him to be. We might have to make him an honorary alum. He is supportive of “all things Stroud” just like his wife.

The miniature golf course was open Saturday and Sunday while alumni were in town.

We will officially open next Tuesday and be open Tuesday through Sunday. We will be open in the evenings during the week and be open Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

If you are interested in volunteering at the golf course for a four-hour shift, please contact me at 918-527- 9833. We have candy, soda pop, water and chips for sale and a Putt Putt t-shirt.

Our “special snack treat” are Johnny Freezes. These are frozen sno-cones in a cup but much richer. Stop by, bring a lawn chair, and enjoy a Johnny Freeze while the kiddos play golf.

Town Talk will be planning a grand opening for later in June.

Our condolences go out to the Cronin/Henley families. James Earl Cronin passed away this past weekend from a heart attack. Losing a loved one is never easy but when they are taken away so suddenly you must deal with not only the grief, but the shock.

James is a Stroud high school graduate and the brother of Jeff Cronin and First Baptist Church (FBC) secretary, Debbie Henley. James was a great son, taking care of his parents as their health started to decline.

Their mother, Earlene Cronin, just recently passed away. James was known for giving big hugs out on Sunday mornings. I know he will be missed by all who knew him.

June is here and summer is in full swing. Lots of things are going on this summer at Stroud Lake and I hear our lake ranger, Jared Null, is doing a great job keeping everything running smoothly despite large crowds.

Check out our local merchants for all your summertime needs. Pick up your camping necessities from our local merchants and head out to the lake for a day of fun in the sun.

Thank you for choosing to shop local………………. first.
