Chandler to have comprehensive plan committee

TheChandlerCityCouncil recently adopted a resolution creating a new Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee and is seeking citizens who are interested in serving on it.

City Manager Jason Orr said, “It helps for a community to have a plan in place and a road map for the future. It also helps me as a city manager and our council to determine where we want to be 20 to 30 years from now and make better decisions.”

Orr noted, “We are seeking letters from Chandler citizens interested in being on the committee. This was created by resolution at the Council meeting on Oct. 11 and the resolution says it shall have from five to nine members. We are hoping for nine.”

Hepointedout,“Wehope to receive these letters by our next Council meeting which is on Nov. 8 and we willhaveanagendaitemfor the Council to appoint the people to the committee.”

Orr said letters of interest, less than one page or a current resume should be emailed to him at city manager@chandlerok.com by 5 p.m.Thursday, Nov. 3.

Orr explained, “Basically, their responsibility is going to be holding public meetings to seek the public’s input and then select a firm to create the comprehensive plan. It should be about a year-long process to fully develop the plan,” he believes.

“I think it’s going to be good for Chandler.”

He said this will be the first time for him to be involved in a plan like this. “I’ll be there just to help and guide.”

Orr said, “It makes it really easy to make decisions as we go along.”

He said the committee’s meetings will be subject to the Oklahoma Open Meetings Act and all agendas should be properly posted in accordance with theAct.
