A 15-year-old youth reportedly shot and killed his dad during an altercation Tuesday afternoon at their house southwest of Stroud in Lincoln County.

Lincoln County Sheriff Charlie Doughtery said no names were being released yet due to notification of next of kin was still being made.

The sheriff said his dispatch received a call about 1:14 p.m. from the 15-year-old who said there had been some kind of altercation.

“The kid said his dad grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen and that his dad was coming at him,” Dougherty stated.

The sheriff said the dad, 41 or 42 years old, was shot twice, once in the side and once in the head, with a semi-automatic pistol.

“As soon as I and my deputies arrived, the kid came out to the end of the driveway,” Dougherty explained.

“EMS came in and tried to work on the dad who was transported to Stroud hospital where he was pronounced dead, Dougherty said. “The body will be taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office,” he said.

“The kid is fully cooperating with us. We took him into custody but he’s not under arrest,” the sheriff added.

The sheriff said the location of the shooting was at 354860 E. 900 Road, about three miles south and one mile west of Stroud off of SH 99.

Dougherty noted the youth was taken to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in Chandler and that two OSBI agents were talking to him there. Dougherty said the youth’s biological mother was out of state but that a relative was with the youth at the Sheriff’s Office.

Dougherty said shortly after he and seven of his deputies arrived on the scene, he requested the assistance of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

“My guys got the search warrant so we could search the residence,” the Sheriff stated.

“The OSBI is handling the crime scene with their Crime Unit,” the sheriff noted.

Dougherty said he had notified the District Attorney just to keep him informed of the situation.
