Hearing set for paircharged with trafficking

Pre-preliminary hearings have been scheduled for a man from Carney and a woman from Chandler who face two felonies each after their arrest by Lincoln County deputies.

James Michael Boyd, 38, whose address was listed as in Carney and Alexandria Deanne Gordon, of Chandler, were each charged Jan. 27 in Lincoln County District Court with trafficking in illegal drugs and knowingly receiving or concealing stolen property.

Each appeared before Special Judge Emily Mueller and she set a $50,000 bond for each of them. They made their initial appearance on Feb. 2 before Judge Mueller and she ordered both of them to return Feb. 23.

Their pre-preliminary hearings are set for 1:30 p.m. March 16.

The trafficking in illegal drugs count accuses them on Jan. 24 this year of having in their possession 363 grams of methamphetamine, a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

They also are charged on the same date of concealing prescription bottles that had been stolen and they knew or had reasonable cause to believe they had been stolen.

Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff Christopher Hyde, in a probable cause affidavit, states he and Deputy Sheriff Steven Hinkle assisted Deputy Mark Kelley on service of a final eviction order at the residence known as the Alexandria and James Boyd home at 900266 S. 3472 Road, Chandler.

According to the affidavit, Deputy Kelley attempted to make contact at the front door by knocking multiple times. Hyde reported when no one responded to the front door, deputies forced entry into the residence.

They found Gordon and Boyd in a bedroom and advised them they could gather what they could carry and to leave the residence.

Hyde stated on further checking the residence, deputies noticed syringes and plastic bags in plain view in the bedroom where they located the two.

As they were getting into a vehicle, Hyde told Deputy Hinkle to stop them and Hinkle performed a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 66 and 3470 Road.

Deputies learned, also, that Boyd had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest. Hinkle advised Boyd he was under arrest and searched him, finding a black container that Hyde had seen Boyd take from the residence and put in his jacket pocket.

Inside, Hyde said, was a crystalline substance that later tested to be methamphetamine along with a green leafy substance that tested to be marijuana.

Hyde advised Investigator Kelly Coleman of what had been seen in plain view. Coleman then wrote and prepared a search warrant for the property which was signed by Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk and deputies searched the residence.

Hyde said he transported Gordon to the Lincoln County Jail and Hinkle took Boyd to the Lincoln County Jail, as well.
