Lion’s Club Students of the Month

Mia Callegan and Kalee Peery have been named the October Lions of the Month by the Lions Club.

Mia Callegan is the daughter of Josh and Jessie Floyd. She plans to attend Oklahoma State University after graduating to pursue a degree in statistics and mathematics.

Callegan has made the Superintendent’s Honor Roll and lettered in academics since her freshman year. She has a 4.0 GPA.

Callegan has been vice president of the Class of 2024 for four years and is also vice president of Chandler’s chapter of The National Honor Society. She has received awards for her foreign language class.

She has played basketball, softball, competitive soccer, and done powerlifting. She has also been a member of PSI and Positive Peers. She is a BancFirst Student Board member.

Callegan’s community involvement includes delivering Christmas cards to nursing home residents, helping out with food drives, reading to children, clothing donations, doing yard work for local residents, booster club fundraising and attending and participating in leadership conferences. She has also volunteered for the concession stand, given animal care to her neighbors, donated gifts and goods to children in need for Christmas, helped the elderly move house and spoken at assemblies.

Kalee Peery is the daughter of Fred and Kristi Peery. She plans to attend a local university after graduating to pursue a degree in business. She hopes to double major and work on her own business as well as on houses.

Peery has a 4.0 GPA and has taken Advanced English and Math classes. She has received an Academic letter since her freshman year and has been on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll.

She has also been a member of the National Honor Society for three years. Peery was class treasurer and Student Council Reporter her junior year. She is the current captain of the pom squad.

Peery has been a member of the pom squad for five years and won OSDTDA Academic All-State for three years, the DTU Be Bold Award in 2022 and the OSDTDA 2A/3A/4A State Championship for Hip-hop & Jazz in 2022. Peery has done powerlifting for five years and won four national records in 2022 and was the 121lb Weight Class State Squat Record that same year. She has also been the football manager for three years.

Other organizations Peery has been a member of are PSI, Positive Peers, YAHL and FCA.

Her community involvement includes assisting Wellston Public Library with the Summer Reading Program, planting flowers at the Lincoln County Museum of Pioneer History, serving at the Boots and Pearls Dinner, serving ice cream at the Chandler Ice Cream Festival, providing soup for Royanna Berry’s fundraiser dinner, Operation Christmas Child, Wellston First Assembly of God VBS and volunteering and coaching at the Special Olympics. She has also made cards for the nursing home for Christmas and Valentine’s Day, helped out at the Veterans Lunch at the American Legion and ran games at the Halloween Carnival at the American Legion Hut.
