Meeker: No action on RV park

Meeker Town Board of Trustees voted to table allowing an RV/Trailer park to be placed at the southwest corner of Veterans and North Dawson by Steve Buoy Construction.

They also approved allowing a portable building to be placed by an individual for a snow cone stand and for a starter home to be placed on a man’s property.

Steve Buoy addressed the board for the second consecutive month regarding his proposal to place the RV/Trailer Park. He presented a drawing of his proposed park for their review.

He told the Trustees the pads for the RVs would be 12 feet by 20 feet and would be drive-thru.

“I will place a privacy fence if you want one,” he told them. “The water line comes off of Oak Street.

“There is no one south of there,” he noted.

Currently, the town has no ordinances for an RV park.

Assistant Police Chief Scott Wilson told the Trustees that “noise comes under current city ordinances.”

Prior to Buoy’s addressing the board, a resident, Michael Hackbarth, who said he lives across the street from the proposed RV/Trailer park, voiced his opposition.

He talked about his concern of public safety, citing potential sex offenders who might locate an RV at the park, property values and that he didn’t think it was the proper location for that facility.

“I wanted to at least get that off my chest,” he told the Trustees.

Wilson informed Hackbarth and the others attending the meeting, “A sex offender can’t live in the town proper because of the way the town is laid out, pointing to the fact there is a church or a school within 2,000 feet of any area.”

Buoy assured the Trustees, “All I’ve done is try to help this town. We’re within two blocks of the police department,” he said of the proposed park’s location.

“It’s already zoned commercial. But if you make me jump through hoops, I’m not going to do this.

“I’m doing this the right way,” he added.

Following the discussion, Trustee Aaron Head made a motion to table the proposal until the March meeting so that ordinances regarding an RV/ Trailer park can be prepared. The motion passed unanimously.

In other business, the Trustees voted to allow Chisolm Dombroswki to place a 10 feet by 16 feet portable building for a snow cone stand on the corner of Green Street and Dawson Street.

They also agreed to allow Wes Francis to place a 30 feet by 20 feet starter home on his property located at 605 S. Dawson.

Trustees also: Voted to pay Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group for property insurance in the amount of $6,106.

Voted to adopt the Sand Springs Code Enforcement model.

Modified the town’s bond schedule for code enforcement offenses to $159 for the first offense, $359 for the second offense and $500 for the third and each subsequent offense.

Agreed to pay $8,165 for a new generator for the police department purchased with a donation from the Thomas Gilcrease Foundation.

Amended a motion to allow the town to release $2,043 to the Meeker Farm and Craft Market which was money the organization made from an event following Thanksgiving. This is pending the approval from the Town’s auditor.

Meeting as the Public Works Authority, Trustees approved the service agreement for Nextbill pay where water customers can get their bill online and pay for it.

Following about a 35-minute executive session, the Trustees voted to rescind the Pay App payable to Sunrise Construction.

They then voted to allow Town Administrator Jeff Wilbourn to continue investigating regarding claim or action by the attorney for Sunrise.

On another matter, Trustees tabled a revised ordinance related to commercial dumpsters.
