Davenport man injured on turnpike

A Davenport man was critically injured recently in a traffic collision on the Turner Turnpike west of Wellston in Lincoln County.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Losurdo identified the injured driver as Trey Weber, 20, who was pinned for approximately 45 minutes before being freed by the Wellston Fire Department.

Weber was transported by Lifeflight to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with trunk internal, trunk external, head and leg injuries, the trooper stated.

Losurdo said the collision occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. in the westbound lane at mile marker 153, approximately five miles west of Wellston.

The lieutenant stated that Weber was driving a 2014 Chevy Sonic westbound and James Chamberlain, 34, Joplin, Mo., was operating a 2021 Freightliner. He reported the Freightliner was westbound in the left lane, slowing due to a collision ahead, and that Weber did not slow and drove into and under the trailer of the Freightliner.

Chamberlain was not injured, Losurdo said.

Losurdo said the cause of the collision was following too closely.

He reported the condition of both drivers at the time of the collision was apparently normal.

Losurdo noted both vehicles were equipped with seat belts and in use by both drivers.

Assisting Losurdo, of the Turner Turnpike Detachment was Lt. Lane, the Wellston Police Department and Fire Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and Lifeflight.
