Dale School Supt. Will Jones updated Board of Education members in their most recent meeting on the roofing project and talked briefly about the upcoming school year.
Jones informed the members, “They are about to finish up on the roofing project,” indicating they should be wrapped up with it by early July.”
At their January meeting this year, board members approved a contract with Coryell Roofing to repair and fix those roofs that were damaged by hail.
Jones explained at that time, “The hail damage in 2020 was estimated at about $2.5 million. It’s time to fix that damage,” he noted then.
The contract approved during the January meeting was for $1,70,537.62. About 70 percent of the roofs were damaged Jones confirmed, as estimated by representatives with the roofing company.
The district’s deductible is $50,000, it was pointed out.
The high school, new gym, middle school, elementary school, old gym and band room will all receive new roofs. All but the old gym and band room will carry 20year warranties, roofing company representatives explained, with the roofs over the band room and old gym having 10-year warranties.
During his superintendent’s report last week, he advised board members he recently attended a conference in Tulsa that discussed student communication.
Therecentboardmeeting was held to wrap up the Fiscal Year that ended June 30.
Looking toward the new school year that begins in August, Jones said he was “ramping up. I’m excited,” he noted.
“This will be the first year since I’ve been here that we don’t have a first year principal starting and all of our office staff is returning.”
Board members voted approvalofaformadjusting appropriations to include insurance claims. “We’ve beenspendingmoremoney than we’re supposed to and that’s because of the insurance proceeds to pay for the roofing project,” Jones stated, explaining the reason for approval of the form.
The board members spent about 15 minutes in executive session to discuss staffing for FY 2025. When they returned to open meeting, they took no action.
In other business, the board approved the following school communication platforms for employee/student/ parent communication including Remind, Class Dojo, Groupme, Email.
Board members also approved bills and purchase orders to end FY24.
