Meeker dissolves Growth and Development Committee

Meeker Town Board of Trustees this week voted to dissolve the Meeker Growth and Development Committee.

Trustee Lanny Thompson said, “We’ve been discussing the Meeker Growth and Development Committee ever since I came on this board. I’m sick and tired of talking about it. Let’s dissolve it With that, he made a motion to dissolve the Meeker Growth and Development Committee and it drew a second from Mayor Donna Weber. Joining them in favor were the other three Trustees including Vice Mayor Mike Orman and Trustees Aaron Head and Mike Melton.

Part of Thompson’s motion, was, “We do it with absolute transparency,” to which the other Trustees concurred, referring to the money that is in that account now.

Part of the $9,477.15 in the account came from a $5,000 grant aimed at Main Street beautification in Meeker and some of the ideas discussed by Trustees would fall under that.

One suggestion the mayor made was fixing all the Christmas decorations that needed repair.

There were suggestions prior to taking the vote to dissolve the Meeker Growth and Development Committee of working with the Meeker Chamber of Commerce and having that organization handle many of the activities that Meeker Growth and Development has been organizing.

Head mentioned the annual Pumpkin Festival as one of those.

Later, meeting as the Public Works Authority, Trustees decided to take no action concerning a fee for customers who wish to remain receiving a paper water bill versus an electronic bill or paperless.
