Laureate Beta Alpha chapter meets

Members of Stroud’s Laureate Beta Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi kicked off their new sorority year with a morning brunch hosted by the social committee. The event was held at the First Christian Church fellowship hall.

The 45th anniversary of the chartering of the chapter was celebrated. Chapter organizer, Sandy Jones, was recognized for forming the chapter in 1979. Guests were greeted by members wearing gaily decorated hats, flamingo motif and balloons decorated the hall and tables.

The annual theme, Beta Sigma Phi…the Place to Be, was also used. President, Chris Hodge, welcomed everyone and members shared why they enjoyed being members and some of the events sponsored by the chapter. A video prepared by Cindy Mason, telling the Story of the organization and the Stroud chapter in pictures over the years. A variety of breakfast treats was served. Following brunch, a special announcement was made by the Officers with a skit to announce that the chapter has achieved the honor of progressing to a higher degree chapter by the International Office due to members achievements and years of service.

In the future the chapter will be known by the new Greek name of Psi Master chapter.

ChrisHodgeandPamHuntmade the announcement of the naming of charter member, Sandy Jones, as recipient of the Beta Sigma Phi Award of Distinction. To be eligible for the honor, a member must have completed and participated in all required areas including chapter organization, holding offices, service to the chapter and others, chaired all committee and been active in sponsoring a state convention. Having met all criteria, she was named to the honor by the Executive Council of Beta Sigma Phi, Kansas City, MO. She was presented a certificate and medal.

Attending the celebration were members, Sandy Jones, Chris Hodge, Pam Hunt, Kim Johnson, Pam Clement, Darlene Lau, Mary Jackson, Sue Helms, Cindy Mason, Linda Waller; guests, Destiny Jackson, Ayne Huelsman, Phyllis Craig and Kim Weldy; former members, Davina McGee, Michelle Doherty; and Bristow chapter members, Kim Gilbert, Debi Chapman and Kim Dowdy.

In other activities, the new Psi Master chapter began fall activities with the annual Beginning Day Potluck dinner hosted by President, Chris Hodge, at her Davenport home. Officers and committee chairs reported on plans for the year and members celebrating birthdays or anniversaries were recognized. It was announced that Destiny Jackson and Ayne Huelsman are new Beta Sigma Phi members and will begin a pledge period to learn about the history and traditions of the organization. Also, transferee, Kim Weldy, was welcomed into the chapter along with reinstating members, Davina McGee and Michelle Doherty.

Theme charms were given to members as a special gift. Following dinner, a secret sister gift exchange was enjoyed and a time of celebrating five additions to the chapter. Business meetings resume in September.
