Our first winter storm for the new year brought us lots of the white stuff and from what I could see and have heard there were not a lot of problems associated with this one.
That’s always good news. We had a reported 5½ inches of snow here in this area.
Don’t believe we had any ice in this area so that made it better and safer for those who for whatever reason had to get out and go somewhere in it.
Pat and I didn’t venture out since there was no reason. I work from home and Pat’s office was closed both days, even though she brought her laptop home with her.
What was really nice this time is the sun came out on Friday, the temperature went above the freezing mark fairly early in the day. Not only did that help with beginning to thaw out the snow, but it had time to dry on most roadways before nightfall when the mercury dipped below 32 and what had melted dried before it refroze.
As the winter storm approached the other morning and the white stuff began to fall, it got me to thinking about when I was kid and how much I looked forward to it snowing.
If it snowed enough, that meant we would be out of school. Along with the other kids in our neighborhood we could make snowmen, go sledding, have all kinds of fun.
Funny, how when I was a kid, even in my teens, this kind of weather didn’t bother me much.
Nowadays, that’s completely different. I dread having to go out in this kind of weather. I just don’t enjoy the cold. I don’t mind looking at the snow from inside my house, but it doesn’t seem fun anymore like it did when I was a kid who looked forward to playing and sledding in it.
I concern myself more today with hoping I don’t have to be out in it for a long period of time and if it’s snowed very much having to drive around in it.
Since we have plenty of firewood, I’ve been trying to keep the fireplace cleaned out. We knew this storm was coming long before it arrived. So, the Saturday beforehand, I brought up some additional pieces of firewood on our covered patio in the wheel barrow and just left it under cover.
If you’ll remember this arctic blast first came in on Sunday morning early when the winds blew 40 to 50 miles an hour and the temps dipped well below freezing.
Not knowing for sure about moisture, I didn’t want the wood to get wet. I decided it would be good to keep it under cover.
I also thought it would be wise if we had our propane tanks full for cooking purposes if needed.
We ran our fireplace Sunday afternoon and evening and again on Thursday afternoon and evening.
We were pretty cozy during this winter storm. Sounds like we might be in for another winter blast late this weekend. If so, we’ll be prepared.
