Weber re-elected Meeker mayor

Meeker Town Board of Trustees this week approved a supplemental budget for the town and re-elected its mayor and vice mayor for twoyear terms. A new board member was also sworn in after he earlier won election unopposed.

Mayor Donna Weber was re-elected to serve another two years in that position and Vice Mayor Mike Orman was reelected to serve two more years in his position.

The mayor administered the Oath of Office to newly elected board member Kenneth Massey.

The supplemental budget approved is for $60,387.26.

The Town’s legal counsel James Hodgens updated the Trustees on the Pope property and on the Jackson property, both with what reportedly is considered dilapidated structues.

He informed them he would be filing actions against both properties and he would notify Town Administrator Jeff Wilbourn of court dates in the future. One will take place in Cleveland County and the other in Lincoln County.

Trustees decided to table an item until next month’s meeting regarding evidence storage for the Meeker Police Department.

Forrest Billingsly addressed the Trustees advising them he and a group of citizens have been working on Meeker Lake Trails. He asked if the group could build a Kiosk at the group’s cost and they would also provide the labor along with a sign.

The Trustees voted unanimously for his group to do both.

Trustees voted to amend an ordinance to remove a section ofs the job description of the Town Clerk regarding municipal court. The court clerk title will be removed from the Town Clerk’s title.

They agreed to allow the Meeker Fire Department to apply for a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Forestry for firefighting equipment and gear replacement.

They also voted to have the Meeker Fire Department apply for an 80/20 reimbursement grant that, if awarded, would allow the Town to purchase a couple of storm sirens with the total cost not to exceed $25,000 with the city’s share $5,000 of that.

They approved the resignations of Leslie Wilbourn and Anthony Buoy from the Meeker Industrial Authority.

Trustees approved retaining Police Officer Dallas Covel, but changing his duties to code enforcement officer and animal control officer under the supervision of Wilbourn as the Town Administrator rather than the police chief.
