Bice delivers check to Chandler airport project

The Chandler Regional Airport has recieved grant funding of $8 million for the runway expansion project.

On Feb. 17, Rep. Stephanie Bice present City Manager Jason Orr with a ceremonial check.

The grant was applied for about a year and a half ago, Bice said at a short ceremony at the airport. The City of Chandler is working with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and Oklahoma Department of Transportation on the project to extend the 4,000-foot runway by about 1,000 feet.

The OTA’s turnpike expansion project will provide the dirt needed for the fill on the runway, according to Tyler McDonald, VP of LBR, Inc. Airport Consultants.

Once construction begins around this spring/summer, the dirt from the turnpike expansion project will be brought over to the airport to provide the needed fill.

“The plan for construction for us is going to be about a year-long construction, because the amount of dirt that’s being brought in takes a long time to bring in,” McDonald said. “It’s not going to be a quick project, but it’s going to be a great one once it’s complete.
