Caesars, Iowa Tribe all in

Hundreds gathered on April 9 to celebrate the grand opening of Harrah’s Oklahoma in Chandler.

The event brought Oklahoma celebrities, local dignitaries and many more, out to see the new venture between the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma and Caesars Entertainment.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony held before doors opened included showgirls, drumming from the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma and speeches. Oklahoma Legends Bob Stoops and Barry Switzer attended and took part in ceremonial first-play once the doors opened.

It’s been a long time coming, saidIowaTribeof Oklahoma Chairman Jacob Keyes as he acknowledged the groundwork done by past tribal leaders and business committees within the tribe.

“Their dedication and belief in our tribe helped carry this vision forward through the years,” he said.“I’veseensomanyof these leaders fight for our tribe, for our sovereignty, and for the opportunities that we have today. Many of our elders and leaders fought hard so that tribes like ours could have gaming on our own lands. They stood up for our rights and our sovereignty when it wasn’t easy.”

Keyes said there were times during the journey when it felt like every obstacle was placed in their way, from endless pitches to investors and banking institutions, to COVID, inflation, rising interest costs and more. However, they kept pushing forward and it was determination that got them through every challenge.

He also thanked Caesars Entertainment for believing in the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma and partnering with them to bring the Harrah’s brand to Oklahoma.

“This partnership represents trust, respect, and shared vision for what this project can accomplish,” he said.

SVP and General Manager Joe Scibetta welcomed everyone to the grand opening, saying that the day marks more than new jobs.

“It’s new career opportunities for our team members. A Las Vegastype entertainment option for our guests, and a new chapter on the historic Route 66 corridor. All in time for the centennial celebration of the Mother Road,” Scibetta said. “This is a milestone moment for our team, our partners and the Chandler community. We’re proud to officially open our doors and introduce a destination that delivers the Harrah’s experience while creating something newandexcitingforOklahoma.”

The new casino has 12 table games, more than 1,000 slot machines and a high-limit gaming area. There are also two bars and two restaurants. Arrow & Ember offers contemporary American fare while Dash Cafe has quicker options.
