Brooklyn Hammons and Nathan Thompson have been named the September Rotarians of the Month by the Chandler Rotary Club.
Brooklyn Hammons is the daughter of TiffanyTalley and Phillip Hammons. She has lived in Chandler all her life and has attended Chandler Public Schools throughout her education.
Hammons has maintained a 4.0 GPA and completed three years of Honors English along with concurrent History, Government, Psychology, and Personal Finance. She is currently enrolled in four additional concurrent classes at Seminole State College this semester, and plans to continue them next semester. Hammons has been on the honor roll throughout high school and earned multiple academic awards, including Outstanding StudentinSpanish I and Speech. She has also received awards for the Oklahoma Honor Society, Academic Letter Award and academic excellence in her classes.
Hammons has been actively involved in basketball since seventh grade, helping her varsity team win districts each year and advance to Area during the 2026 season. She has also participated in track since seventh grade, qualifying for the state meet every high school season and placing in state events. Beyond high school athletics, Hammons competes in USATF, where she has won state titles in her age division, placed at regionals, and qualified for the USATF Junior Olympic Nationals. Additionally, she has been involved in cheer since eighth grade. She currently serves as a co-captain for the varsity team alongside her fellow seniors and as a volunteer Assistant Coach for Chandler Junior High School Cheer.
In addition to athletics, Hammons is a three-year member of the National Honor Society, serving as vice president this year. She is also president of Student Council and has served as the Treasurer for Council 5 at the OASC Basic Workshop. Additionally, she was elected State Treasurer for Oklahoma Girls State and has served as Class Treasurer for three years. Hammons is also involved in Positive Peers, Postponing Sexual Involvement, Business Professionals of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Gifted & Talented, and serves on the Oklahoma City National Memorial & MuseumTeen Board. Additionally, she has been active in drama, performing in “Shrek the Musical” and preparing for an upcoming performance with OklahomaThespians.
Through her involvement in extracurriculars, Hammons has participated in a variety of community service. Some of this includes Wise Guys Girl Power, Chandler Recycles, Chandler Halloween Carnival, Chandler High School Pink Out, Angel Tree Shopping, Relay For Life, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Stamp Out Starvation, Lincoln County Partnership Boots and Pearls Fundraiser, reading to students at East Side Elementary, volunteering at the Regional Food Bank, handing out ribbons at the Lincoln County Fair as the Lincoln County Fair Route 66 Queen, being a regular blood donor for the Oklahoma Blood Institute, and serving as a member of Central Baptist Church.
After graduation, Hammons plans to attend a university in Oklahoma to pursue a degree in Finance.
Nathan Thompson of Chandler has distinguished himself throughout high school through academic achievement, athletics, technical education, leadership, and service to others. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA and has been on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll throughout high school. Thompson has received Outstanding Student Awards in English IIandGeometry and earned a 33 on the ACT.
Thompson has pursued his interest in engineering through three years in the Pre-Engineering program at Gordon Cooper Technology Center. His favorite subject is mathematics, and he has participated in extemporaneous speaking contests through Gordon Cooper. He is also a member of both the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society, reflecting his commitment to both academic and technical achievement.
Athletics have been an important part of Thompson’s high school experience. He has played basketball all four years, advancing to area during his freshman year, the state quarterfinals as a sophomore, and area again as a junior. He also participated in football as a freshman and baseball during his freshman and sophomore years. Outside of school athletics,Thompson enjoys playing a variety of sports, including volleyball, tennis, pickleball, and ping pong.
Service to others has also been an important part of Thompson’s high school experience. He has participated in four mission trips, traveling to Albuquerque, Santa Cruz twice, and Northallerton, England. During these trips, he helped clean up communities, volunteered at homeless shelters and food pantries, distributed food to people experiencing homelessness, and performed maintenance work for local churches. At his home church, Thompson also leads a small group in the youth program on Wednesday evenings, giving him an opportunity to mentor and encourage other students.
Through his academics, athletics, technical education, and service, Thompson has developed a strong foundation for his future. Following graduation, he plans to attend Oklahoma State University to study engineering. His dedication to his education, willingness to serve others, and involvement in his school and community have helped prepare him for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
