Mary Elizabeth Abney of Davenport was born November 22, 1946, in Pawnee, Okla., and died Monday, September 30, 2019, in Tulsa, Okla. She was 72 years old.
Abney, the daughter of John and Helena (Brady) Grass, was a Sac and Fox Nation Tribal member. She worked various jobs and was a homemaker.
Preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Don Abney; two sons, Thomas Abney of Stroud and Robert Abney and his wife Gail of Shawnee, Okla.; her daughter and son-in-law, Lavonda and Brent Youngman of Cushing, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by three brothers, John Grass Jr. and Jeffery Grass, both of Shawnee, and Richard Grass of Wewoka, Okla.; three sisters, Sharon Poodry of Nevada, Shalah Grass of Seminole, Okla., and Latricia “Lee Lee” Switch of Oklahoma City; and other relatives and friends.
A wake service was held Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Sac and Fox Nation Community Building with Ben Little and Mike Grass officiating. Burial will be 9 a.m., today, October 3, 2019, at the Sac and Fox National Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Services in Stroud.
