Chandler High School seniors Jaedyn Wayland and Glennon Selke have been chosen as Lions of the Month by the Lion’s Club for the month of November.
Jaedyn is the daughter of Billy and Christina Wayland and holds a 4.0 grade point average while taking advanced classes in English and Math. A member of the National Honor Society, she has qualified for invitation to the CHS Academic Banquet for four years.
She received Academic Excellence Awards for Algebra II, Biology I, Spanish I and II, and English IIIP.
Throughout her high school years, Jaedyn has been on the Pom squad, which has won multiple awards including National Champions in Jazz, Hip Hop and Contemporary categories. She was captain of the squad for two years.
She played basketball for four years serving a year as captain of the team. She was named Most Improved Player in 2018.
Jaedyn also participated in Business Professionals of America, Positive Peers and the Davenport Youth Department She has been involved in the community through Special Olympics, the Chandler Ice Cream Festival, and Girl Power, a program to encourage younger students to make positive choices and leadership decisions in their own lives. She volunteered time at the food pantry and Stomp Out Starvation.
Following graduation, Jaedyn plans to major in nursing at Rose State College in Midwest City, Okla., preparing for a career involving nursing.
Glennon, the son of Kathy Neal and Greg Selke, maintains a 3.9 GPA while taking advanced classes in English and Algebra III. He also takes concurrent college-level classes. He has participated in the CHS Gifted and Talented Program for four years.
A member of the National Honor Society, Glennon was chosen to be a delegate to Oklahoma Boys State and regularly earns a spot on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll.
His leadership abilities have been evident as he served as his sophomore and junior class Student Council Representative and section leader for tenors and sopranos in the CHS Music Makers. He was a team leader for Postponing Sexual Involvement and is on the First Baptist Church Chandler Youth Group Praise Team.
As a member of Music Makers, Glennon was chosen for several honor choruses and helped the choir achieve all 1’s in state competition for three years. He was a recipient of the 2019 State Superintendent’s Award for Arts Excellence.
His other extracurricular activities include Positive Peers, Catalyst Youth Group, cross-country, wrestling, and track and field.
Glennon has given back to the community by volunteer work at Lincoln County Animal Hospital and serving at the Veterans Day Luncheon. He helped out with Vacation Bible School and Community Cleanup Day through his church.
After graduation, Glennon plans to go to an Oklahoma college to work on an undergraduate degree in Zoology: Pre-Veterinary Medicine before applying for Oklahoma State University’s Veterinary Program. His goal is to earn his graduate degree and open his own veterinary practice.
