...The One Chip Challenge

Chip maker Paqui created the challenge to eat one chip made with Carolina reaper pepper. Right, Stroud Arts president David Timmons reads the challenge instructions listed on the chip packaging. The instructions included warnings such as may cause temporary loss of speech and impaired vision from tears.

“I don’t know anyone else who can say they’ve done this” said Polermo.

The goal was to wait five minutes after eating the chip before taking a drink of anything. Polermo and Cooper wore gloves to pick up the chip. They ate the chips and waited in discomfort for the five minutes.

“My ears are on fire” Polermo commented after one minute into the challenge.

“Don’t ever do this” recommended Cooper a few seconds later.

The father and son team toughed it out, however, and made it the full five minutes before drinking milk and eating ice cream.

The following are the children’s versions of how they would cook a turkey. Agra Mrs. Heisler’s class We get a turkey at Wal-Mart. My dad cooks the turkey on the grill for 7 minutes. After it cooks then he invites everyone and we eat! - Tommy We get a turkey at the store. My dad cleans it and cooks the turkey on the grill. It cooks all day long on a very hot heat.

We get it out and let it cool down. Then we eat it all. - Syncere My mom and Jimmy go to the store and get a turkey. We cook it and eat it. I don’t know how they cook it at all. It is so good. - William My mom and dad put the turkey on a cookie sheet and put foil around it.

They pour grease inside.

Then they put the turkey in the oven. After 2 hours we get to eat it. - Greyson My dad puts the turkey in the bottom oven. It says in the oven until 6 is on the clock. He puts stuff in the turkey. We put seasoning on it. Then we eat it. - Beni My mom puts the turkey in the oven. It is set on 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The turkey needs to cook 70 seconds. Then mom cuts it and takes out the bones for the little kids. The bones go into the trash. She adds lots of salt on top of the turkey. They we eat as a family. - Lacy The turkey comes from a farm. We get a turkey at the store. My mom and dad cook the turkey for dinner. They put it in the microwave for 1 minute. Then we eat it. - Emma Both mom and dad cut the turkey up. Then they cook it in a crock pot. It cooks a lot of minutes. We take it out and then we eat it. - Adam First we buy a turkey from the store. We bake it and season it up. It cooks in the oven for 13 minutes. Then we eat it. - Parker My mom bakes the turkey. The oven is set on 34 degrees Fahrenheit. It cooks a little bit long. We cut it up and eat it. - Gavin Gege cooks the turkey on the stove. It cooks for 1 to 2 hours. We show up and in 30 minutes we all eat. - Nicky We get the turkey from Wal-Mart. My dad cooks the turkey outside in a large black thing. He cooks it a long time. He sees if it is good enough to eat. If it is not he keeps cooking it. Then when it is done we all eat it. - Braxton My dad cooks the turkey on the stove. It cooks for a really long time. Then we says Happy Thanksgiving and we eat it all up. - Kaleb My mom cooks the turkey in the oven. She sets the temperature to hot hot. It cooks for a couple of minutes. My dad cuts it up. Then we eat the turkey. - Donna First we pull the feathers off the turkey. Dad cuts it up. He turns the oven on and cooks it for 1 hour. He makes it cool down and we put it on plates and eat it. - Briar My Memaw gets the turkey. We go to her house for Thanksgiving. They cook it in the oven set on 5 degrees Fahrenheit for 6 minutes. She takes it out and cuts it up. Then she gives everyone a piece. Then we pray and eat. - Klara I go to my family’s house. They put the turkey in the oven. The oven is on 15 degrees Fahrenheit for 7 minutes. We eat it then. - Audrie We bake the turkey. The oven is set on 6 degrees Fahrenheit and it cooks for 4 minutes. ext we cut it up. hen everybody gets a piece. - Luna My dad cooks the turkey outside. He puts white dot stuff on it. e puts Worcestershire sauce on the turkey. It has to cook a long while. Then he cuts it up and we eat. - Bridget My mom puts the turkey in the oven. Put some of the stuff that you put on hamburgers on it. Put it in the oven at 11 degrees. – Avery D.

Directions: First you put the salt and pepper on the meat. Then, you put it in the smoker for 10 minutes. You know it’s finished when it’s all smoky and stuff. That’s it! – Ben K.

Ingredients: seasonings, chicken, 2 eggs. Directions: Put the chicken in the oven or grill and then you put eggs in it and then you put the seasoning on. Put the oven on 10 degrees. It has to cook for like 20 minutes or something. – Jerra B. Ingredients: turkey meat. Directions: Set the oven to 10. Put the turkey on a pan and it cooks for 12 minutes. You know it’s finished when it beeps. – Juan H.

Ingredients: ingredients, a turkey. Directions: First, you need to cut off the skin. And I think that’s all. It has to cook though, probably for 25 minutes. The oven has to be probably like 30 degrees. When the time goes off, you know it’s finished. I think it’ll taste good! - Kadin M.
