The new substation, off First Ave. south of the train tracks, will be tied to the old substation at the end of March or early April.
In order to do this, the electricity to the town will be shut off.
The dates have not been set yet, but they will either be March 27 at 11:59 p.m. to March 28 at 4:59 a.m. or April 3 at 11:59 p.m. or April 4 at 4:59 a.m.
Pearman said this will tie in the new substation into the electrical grid and create a circle around the town that will provide more reliable service.
Pearman said another benefit allaying this second substation is that it provides room for growth.
Pearman said this will be like a normal power outage that won’t take too long.
“It’ll be as if a storm came through and knocked out the power,” he said.
Construction on the new substation built by the Great River Dam Authority started in February of 2019.
