Kelsey Williams, Chandler:

The slowpitch season got started late for Kelsey Williams because she and her Chandler Lady Lions basketball teammates made it to the finals of the area consolation tournament, a game away from the state tournament.

They played basketball on Saturday at Western Heights, then put on their softball uniforms and went to Putnam North the next Tuesday.

Kelsey swung the bat well, going 2-for-2 with two walks and three runs batted in a 15-2 romp and coming back with two more hits, two runs scored and a run batted in a 10-2 win. A good start to the season for Kelsey and the team. Then things went south.

“We were getting ready to play a third game, and he called us off the field, told us to pack up,” she said. “We were told the season would be postponed until April 6.

“It was very disappointing, very said. I was really looking forward to my senior year and I’m still disappointed. It shouldn’t have ended that way.” Kelsey will go to Rose State to play softball in the fall and she has filled her time since the season

Kelsey will go to Rose State to play softball in the fall and she has filled her time since the season ended by applying for scholarships and running with a few friends.

Asked what she might learn from the experience that she could impart to others later on, she paused briefly, then said: “It would be hard to explain, but always make sure you play your hardest, because you never know.”
