The McLoud City Council has approved an amendment to the 2020-2021 budget in order to pay for $50,000 worth of millings and also to cover the cost of hauling them.
Total of the budget amendment was $65,000. City Manager Buck Day explained that cost for hauling the millings will be $15,000.
That action came following the Council’s approval of allowing Day to purchase the millings and having them hauled.
The Council also approved an ordinance that allows golf carts and UTV’s to be driven on city streets. A valid driver’s license and insurance is required, City Attorney Mike Warwick advised.
A person must be 16 to drive a golf cart or UTV on a city street and Warwick stressed, “You must be at least 21 to drive one of them at night according to the ordinance.”
The emergency clause was also approved making it effective immediately.
The Council once again discussed and reviewed the recommendations from the McLoud Strategic Planning Task Force. The city manager pointed to several of those suggestions during their November meeting.
No official action was taken by the Council.
In the September meeting, council members voted unanimously to adopt the recommendations from the Task Force.
During the August Council meeting, Councilman Daniel McClure, Jr. presented the list of recommendations.
McClure, who originated the idea for a Task Force, explained the group looked at three, major broad areas during their meetings.
Those were Community Pride, Government and Economic Development and Community Development.
The members met three times, he said, and also distributed a community survey. He emphasized, “We have to find things for young people in this community to do.”
He said, “Youth activities were the largest interests in the community survey. The Task Force recommends efforts to create youth activity opportunities.”
Among those were volleyball, baseball and basketball locations; youth leagues; expand outdoor activities at the lake.
Members serving on the Task Force in addition to McClure include Citizen Potawatomi Chairman Rocky Barrett, Dean Hill, McLoud Planning Commission, Melody Martin, Kickapoo Tribal Health Center, Rhett Banks, Chamber of Commerce, Melanie Krause, Chamber of Commerce manager, McLoud School Supt. Steve Stanley, School Administrator Rhonda Hockenbury, Pastor Randy Reasoner, Ministerial Alliance, Wanda Haynes, Public Library.
In other business last week, the Council approved the 2021 meeting schedule for the city.
During his report, Day advised it will take some time to get all the limbs from last month’s ice storm picked up. He said crews were working to pick them up from Redskin Road north to the River and from McLoud Road to Arena Road.
He also told the Council he is planning to purchase four lighted stop signs for the city.
