Chandler High School seniors Spencer Clagg and Cobie Rickner have been chosen as Lions of the Month by the Lion’s Club for the month of January.
Spencer Clagg, the son of Eric and Tonya Clagg, holds a 3.25 grade point average while taking advanced classes in English for four years. He was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors and will complete high school as an honors graduate.
He was a letterman in three sports - basketball, one year; powerlifting, three years; and football for four years. Spencer served as captain of the CHS football team and was named Defensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player of the Year. He was Max Preps Player of the Week eight times and earned District 2A-2 Defensive Lineman of the Year.
He was the student council president during his senior year.
Spencer was involved in the community through the Food Bank and Youth Football Camp. He also served as an official for Youth Flag Football.
Following graduation, he plans to work while continuing his education to earn a bachelor’s degree.
Cobie Rickner is the daughter of Steve and Krista Rickner. She maintains a 4.0 GPA while taking advanced classes in English and math. She earned six hours of college credit by taking concurrent classes. She earned invitation to the CHS Academic Banquet for three years and earned Academic Excellence in Geometry. A member of the CHS Gifted and Talented Program,
A member of the CHS Gifted and Talented Program, Cobie is in the National Honor Society serving as president of the school’s chapter. She was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors and was an Oklahoma Girls State delegate.
Other leadership positions Cobie has held include sophomore, junior and senior class president; FFA reporter and sentinel; and Pom captain. She served on the student council for three years.
She has earned multiple awards at Pom State Competition and was a state winner in dairy proficiency in FFA. She helped her cross country team to achieve Academic Champions in 2020.
Cobie also participated in Fish Club, Postponing Sexual Involvement and Positive Peers. She was the CHS boys’ basketball manager and served on the prom committee.
She volunteered her time to help military veterans and worked at community events and the food bank. She sponsored a family for Christmas and helped with child care for the Department of Human Services. As a member of the Chandler First Baptist Church youth group, Cobie has worked in Vacation Bible School and participated in mission trips.
She works at Hite Drug and after graduation, plans to major in political science at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater working toward a career involving law.
