Wellston woman faces charges after arrest

A woman from Wellston is facing a felony and a misdemeanor following her arrest by an Iowa Tribe Police officer in mid-March.

Formal charges were filed in Lincoln County District Court on March 22 against Kimberly Page Cothan, 53. She is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, a felony, and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

A $5,000 bond was set for Cothan and an initial appearance is scheduled for April 15.

The felony charge accuses her of fleeing the scene of a traffic wreck on SH 66 in Lincoln County on March 14 of this year that resulted in injuries to Kendra Womack.

The DUI count charges her with operating a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup on SH 66 while under the influence of alcohol on that same date.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Iowa Tribal Police Officer Colt Savage was advised of a vehicle accident believed to have taken place on SH 66 near the Iowa Casino.

Savage was further advised the vehicle collision had occurred on the Iowa Casino parking and the casino is Indian Country and within the jurisdiction of the Tribe.

The officer discovered a White Buick Enclave parked and occupied by two people and he spoke to the individual in the passenger seat identified as Kendra Womack of Oilton.

She told the officer she was driving her vehicle west on SH 66, turned into the casino parking lot entrance when her vehicle was struck by a pickup truck that was exiting the parking lot. The officer states in the affidavit Womack said the pickup left the scene headed west on SH 66.

Womack reportedly told the officer she had struck her head against the driver’s side door window as a result of the collision.

Savage reported he observed extensive damage to Womack’s Buick.

She told him her head was hurting but she didn’t want medical services.

The tribal officer was then advised Wellston Police had stopped the suspect vehicle at County Roads 3330 and 926 in Lincoln County and he headed to that location.

When Savage arrived at that location, Lincoln County Deputy Kevin Roe and a Wellston police officer were monitoring Cothan.

The affidavit states the tribal officer administered several tests for possible DUI, arrested her and transported Cothan to the Lincoln County Jail in Chandler where she was given a breath test just before 2 a.m. The results indicated 0.13 BrAc g/210L.
