An altercation with his grandfather in April resulted in a young Prague man being booked into the Lincoln County Jail on a felony charge.
A charge of Aggravated Assault and Battery was formally filed in Lincoln County District Court on April 21 against Phillip Ray Hunter Groves, 22.
Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk set a $5,000 bond for Groves on the condition he have no contact with the victim. Groves made his initial appearance on April 22 before Special Judge Emily Mueller.
Judge Mueller set a pre-preliminary hearing for Groves at 1:30 p.m. on May 6.
Groves is accused of smashing a Pyrex glass bowl against the head and face of Ray S. Lockeby, injuring him in the form of a fractured orbital socket, fractured sinus cavity and a severe laceration below the left eye that required stitches on April 20 this year in Lincoln County.
He was arrested by Lincoln County Deputy Jimmy Brown.
Brown, in a probable cause affidavit, stated he was dispatched on April 19 shortly after 11 p.m. to 102031 S. 3500 Road, Prague to a male needing to speak to a deputy because he had gotten into an altercation.
Groves advised the deputy he and his grandpa got into an altercation and that he struck his grandpa with a glass bowl.
Brown, after listening to Groves tell him what occurred and driving Groves back to his grandpa’s residence where it occurred, was advised by his Comm. Center a short time later that the grandfather was at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Shawnee.
The affidavit states that Lincoln County Sgt. Larry Stover, Jr., went to the hospital to speak with the grandfather to get his side of the incident.
After arriving at the sheriff’s office, Brown said in speaking with Groves again he advised him of the same story. Stover reported to Brown the grandfather’s version of the story was identical to the story his grandson had told Brown.
