Graveside services with military honors for A.J. Sirmons were held at Lone Grove Cemetery (old) at 2:00 pm, Monday, July 27, 2020, with the Rev. Bruce Kirby officiating.

A.J. was born April 20, 1929, at Lone Grove, Okla., to Benjamin Franklin and Josephine (Pierce) Sirmons. He passed from this life on July 23, 2020 in Justin, Texas at the age of 91.

A.J. grew up in Lone Grove and later in Altus, Okla. He and Greta Davis were married in Seattle, Wash., August 9, 1954. A.J. joined the Navy in 1948 and lived in numerous places while serving. They eventually settled in Chandler, Okla. He served 22 years with the Navy before retiring. He then worked as a correctional officer at Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite, Okla., and also at Griffin Hospital in Norman, Okla.

A.J. was a 32nd Degree Mason, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and reading a good western novel. He spent time gardening outside in the country life and traveling. He was a fan of football and loved his OU Sooners.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Greta; parents, Benjamin and Josephine; Siblings, Nathailua Emery, Louis Sirmons, Claude L. Sirmons, Mildred Tabb, Jodella Newcomb, Alta, Elmer Sirmons, Audie, Dorse Ray, Dorothy and Cleo Sirmons.

A.J. is survived by his sons, Marty Sirmons and wife, Sharon of Springfield, Mo., and Wade Sirmons and wife, Peggy of Justin, Texas; brother, Velton Sirmons and wife, Anita Kay of Granite, Okla.; grandchildren, Mike Bryant and wife Kim, Susan Ennis, Sarah Sirmons, Mark Sirmons, Jennifer Sirmons Brignac and husband, Jude; great-grandchildren, Logan Bryant and wife, Laura, Stormi Bryant, Trevor Bryant, Jeremy Woods and wife, Nicole, Amanda Vigil and husband, Dave, Matt Ennis and wife, Jessica, Rita Brignac and Eva Brignac; great-great grandchildren, Ian, Sam, Isaac, Trinity, Giana, Jace, Stella, Ahlivia, and Elliott.
