Chester Wilson Provines

Chester Wilson “Bill” Provines of Stroud, formerly of Davenport, was born December 19, 1924, in Sumner, Ill. He died Thursday, February 27, 2020, in Stroud at the age of 95 years.

Provines graduated from Sumner High School in 1943 and served in the United States Army Air Corps. He retired from Empire Container and served as mayor of Davenport. He was of the Christian faith.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Edna (Slunaker) Provines and his wife Dorothy (Cleland) Provines.

Survivors include his sisters, Shirley Cox of Moweaqua, Ill., and Vannie L. Hickey of Greenville, Ill.; his brother and sister-in-law, Harold “Pete” and Marlene Provines of Lawrenceville, Ill.; his stepdaughter Dorothy Earlene and her husband Zeh Logie; and other relatives and friends.

A private burial was held at New Zion Cemetery of Chandler under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
