Phyllis Joan (Cox) Foster was born November 14, 1930, at her family’s home near Seminole, Okla. She died Wednesday, July 8, 2020, in Shawnee, Okla., at the age of 89 years.

Foster, the daughter of Joe and Velma Cox, married James “Frog” Foster in June 1953.

She graduated from high school in Okemah, Okla., in 1948 and earned a degree in Home Economics from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. She worked as an elementary school teacher in McLoud, Okla. After earning a master’s degree, she taught special education in McLoud and following her retirement, taught at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of McLoud.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, her daughter Rebecca Ann Foster and her brother Jim Cox.

Survivors include two children, Paul Duane Foster and his wife, Monique Crooms-Foster, and Tissie Pearson, all of McLoud; her sister Tommi Cox-Phipps and her husband Clark Phipps of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to McLoud Friends of the Public Library or to the charity of your choice.
