The dating world in 2020

Dating is hard.

Dating in 2020 with a global pandemic is even harder.

It’s like trying to eat mashed potatoes with a straw.

No matter how much effort you put into it, it just sucks and there’s no reward.

As a single woman who lives alone, the quarantine was hard.

Loneliness makes the heart ruthless.

I’ve joined a gym, started going to church and visit the dog park at least three times a week.

And yet I still haven’t had any luck.

Boredom overtook me one day and I downloaded the dating app Bumble.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, right?

After a while, I slowly saw my standards lowering.

Who knew proper grammar and punctuation was so attractive?

While on Bumble, I saw a guy whose profile said, “I hunt, fish and have all my teeth.”

It was at that moment I realized maybe being single wasn’t all that bad.

It’s interesting to look back and see how times have changed.

There’s no more courting or dates. Those have been replaced with “chilling” or “hanging out.”

There’s no more phone calls or flowers. Those have been replaced with sending snapchats and memes.

I’m just not good at modern day dating.

I crave the love Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn sang about.

The kind of love that lasted generations instead of current trends.

I will say the one positive thing about dating is learning about new restaurants.

The date may have been a total bust, but at least the lo mein was perfection.
